Overture Increases Minimum Bid to 10-cents. For Frontier Interactive clients benefiting from our Search Engine Optimization programs that involve Overture keyphrase bids, please take special note of this policy change enacted
February 7, 2003 by Overture: Minimum bids are now 10-cents per click, double the previous minimum of 5-cents per click. All new bids and changes to existing listings and bids (less that 10-cents) will be subject to this new
policy. Existing and unchanged listings are grandfathered for the time being. This policy change was enacted without any prior notice from Overture. The last min. bid increase on Overture was September 2001 (up to 5-cents from a
penny). Please see next article on changes in strategy on Overture. New Strategies for Your Overture Keyphrase Bids.
This change is significant because it raises the bottom line and one of our strengths is to identify a
wide range of terms at the minimum bid cost. As a result, any new keyphrase bids will cost at least 10-cents. In reviewing the consolidated keyphrases and current bid amounts for all Frontier Interactive clients in the program, 60%
of the existing bids are at 5-cents per click. Please contact us to discuss modifications to your keyphrases. What to do for the future? Here's a brief overview. Contact us to discuss your specific situations.
- For current keyphrases:
If you want to continue to generate the same levels of traffic, then wait until another bidder bids to the 10-cent level and then outbid them to remain in the top three positions. We monitor all keyphrases daily and will be aware of when this occurs. At that time we will take
this action on your behalf.
- For current keyphrases:
Review your existing keyphrase site descriptions in order
to update the content and improve the strength of the description's ability to generate only qualified viewers to click-thru to your site. This would help minimize click-thru's from site viewers who quickly find that
your site content does not meet their needs.
- For new keyphrases to be added:
Continue to research the most efficient keyphrases that will generate the level of traffic needed to generate sales and/or inquiries. The real downside here is that keyphrase bids for terms that only YOU would be bidding (ie. your company name, product name) can only be added now at 10-cents.
- Overture versus Google Adwords Select:
This is also a good time to examine Google's program since the media costs on Overture are increasing to a point closer to the average media click-thru costs on Google. There
are other considerations as well. Call to discuss.
Update to New Email Filters on Your POP Accounts In November we installed new mail filters on an account-by-account basis and we have all experienced a dramatic decline in SPAM or unsolicited commercial email. Personally, I use two POP
accounts, one I use like an IMAP account (reading mail online and leaving it on the server for access anywhere-anytime via our iManager web-interface). On both accounts, receive one or two SPAM messages per day versus getting 40-50
per day. Adding this feature to your email account is NO EXTRA CHARGE. Just call or email and we will take care of it for you.
Spanish-to-English Web Content Translation for CD-to-DVD We have recently finished a project in conjunction with our Spain Office Manager,
Ignasi Mas Lopez, involving translating web page content from Spanish to English. The project required translation of technical written content and META tags on the topic of converting your household DVD's into CD-ROM's for the
purpose of backing up your DVD collection. The Spanish and English pages are now available online for viewers to read in their native languages. Providing web content in multiple languages has continually resulted in an increase in
product sales and inquiries AND improves search engine optimization in non-English search engines. Contact us for more information on translating your existing web content for other languages. Alert!!: Mailings from ICLS.NET and Network Solutions (to name Two!) Do not respond to and/or make a payment to ICLS (Internet Corporation Listing Service), San Jose, CA, for what their unsolicited letter/invoice describes as "Annual Website Search
Engine Listing" for $37.50. This letter is actually an unsolicited offer. Similarly, Network Solutions - Verisign
has been conducting an extensive email campaign to many of you who used to use Verisign as a domain registrar. Many of us used them as registrar in the days when Network Solutions was a monopoly. Most Frontier Interactive clients are now using our domain registration registrar which has many policies more favorable to you. Contact us directly to review your situation if you want to confirm your next renewal date or change contact information. Oh yeah, Verisign's email database is the source of many unsolicited emails or spam.
